Ahead of the ASEAN Schools Games which will be held July 17-25 2019 in Semarang, the Indonesian Team continues to oversee their readiness by carrying out the exercises.
One of them is the Indonesian Table Tennis team. Proper preparation continues. The cohesiveness of the team game is the concentration and top priority of Anang Satriono’s table tennis coach to prepare the strength of his foster children.
For table tennis in ASG 2019, seven numbers will be contested, namely men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, men’s teams, women’s teams, and mixed doubles.
Based on information from Anang Satriono, guarding the cohesiveness of the team became the subject matter prioritized by the coaching team, watching the medals targeted came from double numbers, both male and female, and mixed doubles.
“The young athletes who were selected before trailing national training have conducted regular lessons at their respective clubs, so in this short period, we chose to strengthen cohesiveness. We believe that all selected athletes have good personal qualities to compete with participants from other countries, “Anang said on Thursday (07/11/2019).
Meanwhile, regarding the opportunity for Indonesian table tennis teams to win the gold medal at ASG this year, Anang watched Indonesia have the opportunity in two numbers.
“We chose to target medals in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles, especially in the combined doubles because watching in this number contingents from other countries did not see this number enough,” he added.
Although Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore still dominate enough for table tennis. But for Anang, he remains optimistic, and he does not burden or force all athletes to give up gold medals, for his experience is what is desired by all athletes to the point that in the next few years.
“Athletes who are now able to have the mentality to compete for more events later,” he said.
