132 more donors needed to give in St. Thomas this week

WHO Local blood recipient, Steven McLean, is thankful that blood donors saved his life and helped ensure his ability to celebrate many Christmases with his family. Steven, a recent graduate of Parkside Collegiate Institute, plans to thank St. Thomas blood donors in person this week at two different clinics. Among them will be students from his former high school.

WHAT In St. Thomas, we need 132 more donors to donate blood this week. Between December 18 and December 31, Canadian Blood Services will need to collect close to 30,000 units of blood to meet the needs of hospital patients, like Steven, all across Canada over the holidays.

WHERE Media opportunity with Steven McLean and donors in St. Thomas:

· Timken Community Centre (2 Third Avenue, St. Thomas), Wednesday, December 21 from 12:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
· Knights of Columbus Hall (265 Wellington Street at the corner of Wellington and Third Avenue), Saturday, December 24 from 9 a.m. – 12 Noon.

Steven McLean was born 14 weeks early, measuring only 15 inches and weighing only 2 pounds, 6 ounces. Due to medical complications over the next 17 years of his life, Steven required many units of blood to survive. To help meet the continuing need for blood for patients like Steven, donors who have an appointment in the coming weeks are urged to honour it.
