Corn Fest a CRAZY success!

Even though last weekend was insanely hot, crowds came in droves to celebrate this seasons bumper crop of corn. Don’t stress corn is still available for several weeks! The Friends of Market would like to thank the many, many generous sponsors from last weekends event:

Can you imagine such lovely improvements to the markets atmosphere? We can! We will! with your help! Please support our mission cause in the end we all benefit. Want to be a friend? Email us here.

This weekend we welcome some new vendors! Wonder where we will pack them in?! Should be interesting!

Check out some of these highlights from this weekends market:

Harris Family Farm: Harris Family Farm will be at the market with TONS of flowers as usual this Saturday. On Aug 11th, Janis, Mark and Cameron will set up then have to leave to go to one of Janis’ college friends wedding (we are supplying the flowers too) BUT don’t worry… Janis’ sister Lisa will be there to look after the table along with some of our cousin helpers. Please note though, Lisa will not have the pastured pork sausage and bacon on Aug 11th.

Grammies Creations: This week at Grammies Creations English Chow Chow and an all purpose Relish has been added to the already large selection of preserves. Both of these will be sampled on Sat.  There will be a small quantity of Tomatillo Salsa, my plants are loaded with blossoms, and the fruit has just started to become ready, so small batches at a time, but just a tease to start.  This will be sampled as well. TIP–Always put any new jar of pickles in the fridge for several hours before eating…this will tighten up the cell structure and make them very crunchy.  Just opened bottles sometimes are just not the same as after refrigeration.  See you Saturday, bright and early..

From The Meadow: Do you need a pick me up in the morning? Our From the Meadow  shower gel will have you looking forward to your morning shower. Put our all natural ingredients to use we have Peppermint and Birch. Stop by and have a look at the list of ingredients from a commercially made shower gel…compare the difference. Challenge yourself to read labels and figure out what those “big” words mean.
This week I will be away in beautiful Gatlinburg Tennessee.
With my absence you will be spoiled by having Heather Kazmer at the market. I’m happy she will get to see what the market is all about and how wonderful our customers are.
Stop by and chat with Heather the V.P. of From the Meadow…but dont be to easy on her…lol
(Thank you Heather for covering for me….xo)

Dancey Family Farm:  Chris and Wil Dancey, of Dancey Family Farm, will be at market this Saturday with their wide selection of certified organic Heirloom Tomatoes, including Ground Cherries, and fresh, certified organic Edamame Soybeans.

Green Leaf Gourmet: Join Kim of GREEN LEAF GOURMET in celebrating the season’s bounty! Kim makes picture perfect pastry that surpasses all levels of expectation for delicious taste and artistic presentation! You will find a beautiful selection of unique preserves, dips and salads to suit all your summer entertaining needs. Many of her gourmet delights are also gluten-free and vegan. Stop by this weekend to sample some handmade hummus. Pick up some of her famous Scottish Cream Blueberry Scones, Energy Bars or handmade Sweet Breads – A perfect choice to start your Saturday morning at the Horton Framer’s Market!!

Stop inside the Market building beside GREEN LEAF GOURMET to create a special craft each week for Kids!! The McCarvell crew serves up some of the best seasonal Fresh- squeezed LEMONADE around and sometimes even a unique international summer drink. This weekend we will have “Olympic Punch” to celebrate Canadian athletes along with Lemonade for only $1 per cup! Thank-you to all our customers, big and small for supporting our contribution to the Horton Farmer’s Market each Saturday! See you soon, Christina, Olivia, Isaac and Annalea

Elgin Harvest

Elgin Harvest has three delicious ways you can cool down this week: Spicy Corn Soup, Elgin Harvest Salsas (Peach & Mint or Tomatillo) and refreshing cold drinks. I wonder what will sell out first? Peachy keen lemonade or juicy watermelon mint…
New preserves this week include Concord Grape Jam. Dark, intense and exciting- just like Batman.

McSmiths Organic Farm

At McSmiths we have been “pickin beans”…yellow ones, green ones, purple ones ,long filet, gourmet filet and dragon tongues.
We will also bring delicious long field cukes and  lemon cucumbers, several varieties of eggplant and zucchini, fingerling potatoes.
Our pick list is getting so long without mentioning all the tomato tastes we will be bringing.
