Hanagan, Reta (Walker) of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, June 8th, 2013, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Russell Hanagan (1986) and loved mother of the late Russell Stanley Hanagan (May 2013) and Norm Bolt and his wife Eva. Much loved grandmother of Sherri (Larry Kelsey) of St. Thomas Tammy (Dan Benko) of London and Shawn Hanagan of St. Thomas. Loved great grandmother of Christopher and Taylor Hangan and Zack Claire and great grandmother of Cowen and Autumn Dubois. Predeceased by 2 brothers George and Elgin Walker and a sister Dorothy. Reta was born in Wales, England on April 13th, 1919 the daughter of the late Nelson and Dorothy Hanagan. She was a longtime member of the Lord Elgin Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and was a Past President for a number of years of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Williams Funeral Home was founded in 1893 by P.R. Williams and is one of the oldest Funeral businesses in the province. Over the next seven decades the business was passed down through several generations in the Williams Family. In the eariler years they occupied a number of different buildings along Talbot Street and in 1929 they purchased the building at 45 Elgin Street, from which they still operate.
In 1966, Gordon Hughson, who had operated the Hughson Funeral Home in Aylmer for the previous twenty one years, purchased the funeral home and continued the long tradition of dedication and service. Currently, the funeral home is operated by his sons, Allan and Gary Hughson.
