Harvey, Walter of St. Thomas and formerly of Toronto, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 84th year. Dearly loved husband of 63 years of Joyce (Findlay) Harvey and loved father of Wally De Sadeleer (late Paul) of Ottawa, Wendy Booth (Tony) of Pickering, Andrea Strachan (Harry) of Ashland, Ohio and Lezlie Simmons (Chuck) of St. Thomas. Sadly missed by 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Walter was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 20th, 1930, the son of the late Charles and Mae (Christie) Harvey. He worked over 41 years for Comstock International, Toronto and was proud member of Union Local 46. Walter was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
The funeral service to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at the Bible Baptist Church, St. Thomas on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Bible Baptist Church.
The Williams Funeral Home was founded in 1893 by P.R. Williams and is one of the oldest Funeral businesses in the province. Over the next seven decades the business was passed down through several generations in the Williams Family. In the eariler years they occupied a number of different buildings along Talbot Street and in 1929 they purchased the building at 45 Elgin Street, from which they still operate.
In 1966, Gordon Hughson, who had operated the Hughson Funeral Home in Aylmer for the previous twenty one years, purchased the funeral home and continued the long tradition of dedication and service. Currently, the funeral home is operated by his sons, Allan and Gary Hughson.
