Horncastle, John Michael of St. Thomas, passed away suddenly at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Monday, July 8th, 2013, in his 48th year. Dearly loved son of Mary Ellen Kennelly and the late John Horncastle (1986). Loved brother of Lana Brooks (Shawn), Melissa Frederick (Ray), Jan McKnight (Greg), Jodi Spornitz and Bill Spornitz. Loved uncle of Brent, Allsion, Melissa, Ashlie, Lindsay, Gillian, Andie, Christie, Amanda, Felix, Sasha and Fabian. Predeceased by a niece Ashlie Brooks (2000). Dear cousin of John Bate (Therese) Sadly missed by a number of other cousins. John was born in London on May 9th, 1966. He worked for Nerds on Site. John was an avid Nascar fan.
A public memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Visitation at the funeral home from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Flowers gratefully declined. Remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
The Williams Funeral Home was founded in 1893 by P.R. Williams and is one of the oldest Funeral businesses in the province. Over the next seven decades the business was passed down through several generations in the Williams Family. In the eariler years they occupied a number of different buildings along Talbot Street and in 1929 they purchased the building at 45 Elgin Street, from which they still operate.
In 1966, Gordon Hughson, who had operated the Hughson Funeral Home in Aylmer for the previous twenty one years, purchased the funeral home and continued the long tradition of dedication and service. Currently, the funeral home is operated by his sons, Allan and Gary Hughson.
