Lyle, Jean Isabel of R.R. 1 St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Monday, July 1st, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. Beloved wife of Robert Stanley Lyle and loved mother of James Douglas and his wife Lee Lyle of St. Thomas, Janet Isabel and her husband Dennis Taylor of Corunna and John Robert Lyle and his wife Susan of St. Thomas. Much loved grandmother of David and his partner Andreane Lefreniere, Laura and Craig, Taylor, Robert , Kate and Tracey Lyle. Dear cousin of Dr. Ian Begg of St. Thomas. Dear sister-in-law of Mary Beattie, Eleanor Fair and Jack Ireland. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Jean was born in St. Thomas on November 12th, 1923, the daughter of the late Wesley H. and Bessie M. (Begg) Irwin. She was a former secretary with the New York Central Railroad and later farmed and raised her family. Jean was a life member of Knox Presbyterian Church, a member of the Knox Presbyterian Women, a 50 year member of the Middlemarch Women’s Institute , a member of the St. Thomas Curling Club and a volunteer for a number of years with the V.O.N. and the Canadian Cancer Society.

A Public Memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Hincks St., St. Thomas on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Visitation at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Private interment of ashes in Elmdale Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

Williams Funeral Home
The Williams Funeral Home was founded in 1893 by P.R. Williams and is one of the oldest Funeral businesses in the province. Over the next seven decades the business was passed down through several generations in the Williams Family. In the eariler years they occupied a number of different buildings along Talbot Street and in 1929 they purchased the building at 45 Elgin Street, from which they still operate. In 1966, Gordon Hughson, who had operated the Hughson Funeral Home in Aylmer for the previous twenty one years, purchased the funeral home and continued the long tradition of dedication and service. Currently, the funeral home is operated by his sons, Allan and Gary Hughson.
