The following is a statement from Ontario PC Health Critic Jeff Yurek on World Mental Health Day:
“World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and work to end the stigma associated with mental illness. Mental illness affects one in five Canadians and is the leading cause of disability in Canada.
“This year’s focus, Psychological First Aid, is defined as a humane, supportive and practical response to people in distress from a crisis. It is beneficial for Ontarians to familiarize themselves with Psychological First Aid, and to be a source of support and comfort for those in need.
“The Ontario PC Caucus believes mental health is just as important as physical health. Although the system requires continued improvements, we commend the numerous organizations and frontline workers that raise awareness and work to provide equitable access to mental health services.”
