QUEEN’S PARK – This morning the Liberal government, following the advice of the PC Party, announced they will immediately suspend the second round of its Large Renewable Procurement process and the Energy-from-Waste Standard Program. This will halt over 1000 megawatts of solar, wind, hydroelectric, bioenergy and energy from waste projects.
“Following the Liberal announcement, I am calling on the government to cancel the wind project in the Municipality of Dutton/Dunwich. The community has been emphatically against any wind project in the municipality. This contract will produce energy we do not need,” stated Jeff Yurek, MPP, Elgin-Middlesex-London.
The municipality of Dutton/Dunwich conducted a survey of residents before declaring themselves a non-willing host with 84% of the community voting against wind turbines. The survey and report was shared with the ministry followed by many meetings. Unfortunately the Liberal government did not listen.
“It is my hope that the government will continue to follow our Party’s advice and cancel the Dutton/Dunwich wind project that has divided and torn the community apart.” Yurek concluded.
