Bear is a lab mix, about 3 years old. His ears are up sometimes and then down, sort of like radar. Bear’s owner abandoned Bear on a country road near Dalewood on a cold night. This was so upsetting when we were told about this, that the now-Mayor Jackson Chapman and Alderman Warden were out driving around to find poor Bear, along with other concerned citizens. Finally Bear showed up as a stray dog and put in the St. Thomas pound. Bear was somewhat mistrustful in the cage at the pound, and Joe Spencer of the Dog Owner’s Association went to the pound to make friends with Bear, and found Bear a great foster home.
Bear is an wonderful example of how a community can come together to overcome a terrible deed of abuse and abandonment by an owner. Today Bear is doing great. He is happy, well-adjusted, and back to being a happy dog once again. There is only thing missing in Bear’s world……….and that is a forever home.
