Movie Review – Talladega Nights: The ballad of Ricky Bobby

The story of one of the greatest Nascar drivers and his climb to the top. It also covers his fall down the other side……

A Will Ferrell vehicle (joke!) about the crazy world of driving fast. Partnered with his best buddy, played by John C Reilly, Ricky Bobby is determined to win everything he can.

This is a very funny movie, but not always for the right reasons and not always that funny. More than a couple of times there seemed to be a scene that, well, just wasn’t as funny as it should have been and a couple of scenes that just didn’t do anything at all for me. Yes, Will Ferrell is funny but his persona as Ricky Bobby was determined to win and that was it. I found myself laughing at him rather than with him, and he lacked redemable characteristics that a lead character usually needs.

I really did enjoy the movie but afterwards found myself wondering why. Some strong scenes don’t make up for the moments that are just awkward to watch.
