Too many cooks can spoil the broth but what about in the case of Avengers soup? With equal parts Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow, the soup is as tasty as you can get. With Joss Whedon at the helm, the soup is accompanied with a whole lot of crackers!
With such an ensemble piece, there is always a danger that one character will outshine the others. The Avengers avoid this, even with the caliber of actors involved. Everybody rocks, from Iron Man to Nick Fury, each has memorable lines and actions.
Coming into this movie, there had already been movies for several of the characters, 2 for Iron Man, 1 each for Captain America and Thor. While Hawkeye and Black Widow are the least known in regard to previous movies, they are balanced by the Hulk who has had two failed reboots already, all be it with two different actors.
Mark Ruffalo takes on the Bruce Banner / Hulk with a different approach to anything we have seen before. Ruffalo, known more his serious roles, gives his dual roles a gravity that hasn’t been seen before. It is perhaps one of the best performances in the movie, although with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlet Johanson and Jeremy Renner, the level of acting is already pretty high.
There are so many great lines and scenes with each main character having at least moment in the spotlight. The Avengers is a very cleaver movie that keeps the action flowing as much as the one liners. In many ways the movie is the panicle of superhero movies, how do you top having all these heroes on one screen? Batman and Superman fight Spiderman and Daredevil?
The Avengers is everything that is good about comic book based movies and is easily one of the best action movies of recent times.
