We often jokingly say “It’s all me!”, but how often do we take that kind of statement seriously?
It should be about you!
It should be about the goals you want to achieve, it should be about doing things that make you feel good about yourself, it should be about making decisions that are good for you.
Tomorrow, the first Monday of the New Year, I will start making things about me. I am going to set some goals both long term and short and share them with you on the blog. I am hoping it will keep me “honest” and possibly encourage a few of you to do the same.
One of my long term goals is getting more exercise. I have had gym memberships thinking that I will go because I am paying money, but after a short while it seems to be too much hassle and I skip a work out, and then skip two more the following week and soon enough I have forgotten the combination of my lock anyway. So my short term goal is that I am going to go to the Timken Centre and do a few laps around the track tomorrow, I am even thinking I may even do a flight of stairs between each lap.
Another long term goal is to lose weight, pretty original right!!! So my short term goal is that tomorrow I stick to a meal plan. I have done every diet known to man, and guess what….they do work, however you have to make changes in your lifestyle if you plan on keeping any amount of weight off. That’s the part I always forget. So instead of being on a diet, I am just going to stick to a plan for one day…And then I will create a plan for the next day. One day at a time.
And I am still going to be working towards finding balance. Right now for me my home/work balance is all out of whack. I need to investigate options that will allow me to feel less trapped, and let me start enjoying my work once again. I think that is part of the difficulty when you have been in a job for a long time. You tend to resent your work because of all the time it takes you away from family, friends, or other activities…but in order to do the things you want to do, you need money, and therefore you have to work.
You know, maybe it isn’t all about me after all, maybe it’s all about balance.
