Schools closed due to major winter storm
A major winter storm has forced the closure of schools across the Thames Valley school district on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011.
All schools and facilities in Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford Counties, including London, Strathroy, Alymer, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg and Woodstock will be closed.
“After careful consideration, we are closing our schools,” said Bill Tucker, Director of Education for the Thames Valley District School Board.
Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services has cancelled school bus service for Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties and within the city of London.
TVDSB relies on Environment Canada weather forecasts, input from Southwestern Student Transportation Services, collaboration with the Catholic board, as well as reports from the municipalities within the school district.
It is important to note that when schools are closed the Board’s Facility Services staff are to follow procedures for inclement weather. All other staff are excused from work.
All after-school use of school facilities is also cancelled.
Wednesday is a scheduled Professional Activity day for secondary schools. Second semester in our Secondary Schools will commence as planned on Thursday.
There is no word currently for the separate school board but it is likely they will follow suit.
