McManus, Rev. Charles Thomas

McManus-Rev. Charles Thomas, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, at the age of 92 and in his 65th year of Priesthood. He was born in St. Thomas on October 18th, 1923, the son of the late Patrick and Blanche (Wilkinson) McManus. Loved brother of Jean Snyder and the late Dr. Edward Snyder (2008). Dear brother-in-law of the late Bernadette McManus (2016). Dear uncle of John McManus, Maureen Dodd (James) and Julie Pickard (Dave). Great uncle of Christopher McManus, Evan Dodd, Elizabeth Thorn (Tristan), Emily Hogervorst (John), Erin Crossman (Nate), Jameson Pickard (Veronica)and Kathleen Pickard (Robert). Dear great uncle of Harrison andf Esme Thorn and Charlie Crossman. He is also survived by many cousins. Father McManus was ordained May 19, 1951 and served as an associate Pastor at Blessed Sacrament, Chatham, 1951-1955, Holy Rosary, London 1955-1959, St. Peter’s Bascillica, London 1959-1962. Then as Pastor at St. Ignatius, Bothwell, St. Charles Garnier, Glencoe, North American Martyr, Wardsville, from 1962-1981. St. Cecilia’s, Port Dover, 1981-1986. He travelled on Sabbatical to Israel, Greece, Egypt, Turkey for 4 months and studied through the Catholic Theological Centre in Chicago until June 1987. After returning in 1987, he was Pastor at St. Christopher’s, Forest, until his retirement in St. Thomas in 1993. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 1467, and the St. Thomas Wood Craving Club.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Holy Angels’ Church Restoration Fund.
