Polland-Johnston, Paula (nee Crandell) (Pauline Marie Ann) of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital at the age of 73. Dearly loved wife and best friend of Wayne Johnston. Predeceased by her husband Tom Polland. Much loved mother of Debra Hardy (John) , Tom Polland (Michele) and Michelle Durbridge (Mark). Cherished grandmother of Rich Hardy, Shawn Malone (Ashlee), Maggie Young (Brandon), Matt Malone, Bekki Dwyer (Shane), Zak Hall, Abby Polland , Maclaren Polland and Jake Durbridge. Sadly missed by Wayne’s family. Loved great grandmother of Liam. Lincoln, Dallas, Aubree, Sawyer and Dylan. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and by Wayne’s family. Dear sister of Dolores Britton (late Don) and John Crandell (Joanne). Paula was born in St. Thomas on November 6, 1942, the daughter of the late John and Betty (Simons) Crandell. She lived in St. Thomas all her life. Paula retired from Bell. She was a member of First United Church. Throughout her life Paula was an active volunteer. She volunteered 9 years at Valleyview, 22 years for Iron Horse, 10 years at the CASO Station and 12 years for the Canadian Cancer Society. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a rebel of a lady and rode a motorcycle until 72 years of age. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Remembrances may be made to London Regional Cancer Centre, the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation or the Valleyview Recreation Fund.
