Beattie, Mary (nee Lyle)

BEATTIE, Mrs. Mary (nee Lyle), of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, October 10, 2016, in her 94th year.  Beloved wife of the late Robert Earl Beattie (1988).  Dearly loved mother of Kathryn Beattie, and Donald R. Beattie (Barb), and cherished grandmother of Brandon, Brett, and Lindsay Beattie, all of St. Thomas.  Dear sister of Eleanor Fair, late Cathryn Ireland, late William, late Douglas, and the late Robert “Bob” Lyle.  Dear sister-in-law of Marion McKenzie and Jack Ireland.  Also fondly remembered by Ian Begg, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews and their families.  Born in St. Thomas, ON, August 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Lena (nee Hill) Lyle.  A Registered Nurse, Mary was a 1945 graduate of the Memorial Hospital, St. Thomas.  She was employed at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for many years.  Mary was a member of First United Church, St. Thomas, a long-time member of the St. Thomas Curling Club, an avid traveler, and a volunteer at the Grand Theatre, London and with the Red Cross for many years.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Thursday, October 13th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at First United Church, 7 Curtis St., St. Thomas (St. George St. & Curtis St.) on Friday, October 14th at 2:00 p.m.  Memorial donations to the STEGH Foundation or the Talbot Teen Centre will be gratefully acknowledged. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Jones and the 4th floor nursing and therapy staff at the STEGH for their compassionate care.
