Beech, Ronald Leonard

Beech-Ronald Leonard of Port Stanley, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 15, 2016, at his residence, at the age of 95. Beloved husband of Eileen ‘Joyce” (Maycock) Beech and dearly loved father of Barbara Beech-Nugent of Howell, Michigan and Rhonda Duffy (John) of St. Thomas. Cherished grandfather of Jonathan (Laura) and Lindsay Silver and great grandfather of Benjamin and Elaina Silver. Dear brother of Robert Fraser (June) of St. Clair Shores, Michigan and Shirley Ward (Bernard) of Clinton Township, Michigan. Predeceased by 2 brothers Albert and William Beech, brother-in-law Gordon Maycock and sister-in-law Louise (Smith) Maycock. Ron was born in Barrie, Ontario on April 16, 1920, the son of the late Albert Beech and Annie Mae (Thompson) Fraser. Ron was a graduate of Michigan State University in 1950. Ron worked from 1936-1942 for Krogers, served in the Canadian Army 1942-1946. He was the produce and Dairy Merchandiser, Toledo Division 1950-1963, Michigan Potato Council, Executive Director 1967, G.M. of Sun Parlour Greenhouse Growers Coop, 1967-1970. MSU Cooperative Extension Agent and Director 1970-1985. He was a Corporal in the Essex Scottish 5th Regiment and a member of the Canadian and American Legion. He was a member of the Masons, Rotarians, Kiwanians, Y’S men International and Y.M.C.A. (Detroit). Ron served as a Midland County Commissioner, served on the School Board for Lincoln School District, and assisted with the Back Pack Program in Midland County. He was a member of the Canadian and American Veterans’ Association. He later was a member of the Port Stanley Village Association and was a volunteer for the Alzheimer Society and Elgin County Homes.
A Memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Port Stanley on Wednesday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation at the Church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Cremation has taken place.
