Berry, Charlie

July 4th, 1923 – October 18th, 2013

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Charlie in his 91st year.

Charlie was born and educated in Colonial India.  He then went to England and when war broke out he joined the Royal Air Force.  He was aged 17 at the time.  In 1955, he married Margaret Milner and they came to Canada the following year.  Charlie worked in the aircraft industry, employed mostly with Canadair in Montreal until his retirement in 1982.

An avid supporter of the O.S.P.C.A., he and Maggie shared their home with many a fortunate canine.  Charlie was a long time member of the Lions Club in Montreal, then VanKleek Hill and later St. Thomas.  A man of many interests and activities, Charlie enjoyed sharing the fruits of his talents, particularly cooking, baking and brewing.  He started line and square dancing in his early 80’s and continued until his 90th year.

Charlie was a man of energy, counsel, and kindness.  He will be greatly missed by Maggie, his family and many wonderful friends.

Cremation has taken place.  A Lion’s Club Service will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 7:00 pm.  Family and friends are encouraged to attend the service.

If desired, donations to the Lion’s Foundation of Canada-Guide Dogs or the O.S.P.C.A. would be appreciated.

Personal condolences to the family can be made at
