Burford-Judith Gale

BurfordBurford-Judith Gale of St. Thomas, passed away on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in her 65th year. Dearly loved wife of Ned Burford and much loved mother of Christa Jayne Jones (Dallas), Kathleen Michelle Powers (Todd) and the late Jeffrey Edward Burford. Much loved “Nana” of Lucas Weaver,  Bradley Burford-Reiger, Taylor and Alex Jones and Jenneke Peter. Loved sister of Elizabeth Hanley, Joanne Lloyd, James Plant (Marla) and the late Laura Hobden (Ron), the late Sheila Plant, the late Max Plant and his wife Mary Lou of St. Thomas and the late Cecil Plant . Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Judy was born in St. Thomas on April 2, 1950, the daughter of the late Elmer Ross and Ellen May (Jarman) Plant and daughter-in-law of the late Roy and Edythe Burford.  She lived in St. Thomas from 1950-1969 and then Oakville for the next 21 years and then moved back to St. Thomas in 1991. She was a retired Teacher and also an author. Judy graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. and Special Education and with a B.F.D. from York University. She was a member of the Ontario College of Teacher, Canadian Authors Association, Crime Writers of Canada, Sisters in Crime Association. Judy was an author of 5 short stories in Book Mosaic 2014 and has a novel pending publication call “Compelling Desire to Kill.” She also was a member of various social Groups, Golf Clubs, Brownies and was a Girl Guide Leader.

A public memorial service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Tuesday, September 9th  at  11:00 a.m. Visitation  at the funeral home on Monday, September 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Cremation has taken place, with private entombment of ashes in Elmdale Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Research), the Women’s Shelter of St. Thomas or charity of choice.
