Garner- James Edward “Ted” of the Valleyview Home, formerly Locke Avenue, St. Thomas passed away at his late residence on Sunday, December 28, 2014, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of L. Evelyn (Humphrey) Garner, married 59 years and loved father of Lori and her husband Steven Pringle of St. Thomas, and Lynn and her husband Robert Heffernan of Bend, Oregon. Proud Papa of Jason Garner, Adam Heffernan, Matthew Pringle and John Heffernan. Dear brother of Gerry and his wife Elsie Garner of New Westminster, B.C. and brother-in-law of Shirley Campbell of Cornwall. He is also the favourite uncle of several nieces and nephews. Ted was born August 1, 1930 in New Westminster, British Columbia, the son of the late Edward and Aileen (Greenall) Garner. Ted served in the Canadian Armed Forces for twenty five years, and spent an additional eighteen years with the Communications Department of the London Police and Fire. He was a masterful woodworker who loved to fish and hunt. Ted was known to make the best breakfast in the world. His dry wit and the twinkle in his eyes will be greatly missed.
A Memorial service will be held for family and friends on Saturday January 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas Pentecostal Church, 144 Wellington St., St. Thomas. Followed by entombment of ashes in the Elmdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diabetes Assoc., The Alzheimers Society, or a charity of your choice.
