Kopic-Duro “George” of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 5th, 2015, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 74th year. Beloved husband of Elizabeth Varga-Kopic and the late Kata (Gregurovic) Kopic (1996). Much loved father of Maria Prashad (Charles) and Ilinka Armstrong (Bill), all of London and the late Ruza Ana “Rosey” Kopic (1993) and step-father of Radovan Varga and family of Croatia and the late Drazan Varga. Loved and cherished grandfather (“Best Dida”) of Brailen and Brodie. Dear brother of Ana Topic (Mato). Predeceased by a sister Ruza Nedic and by 3 brothers Stjepan “Steve”, Josip and Ivic Kopic. Dear brother-in-law of Milena Kopic and Ivo and Tammie Gregurovic. Sadly missed by many, many friends. George was born in Bosnia on February 23, 1942, the son of the late Ilija and Mara Kopic. He was retired from Ford, Talbotville and a member of the C.A.W. George was a founding member of the St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Roman Catholic Church, London. He was a member of the Croatian Catholic Union. George was well known in the Community for preparing and donating a roasted pig for a number of fund raising and many charity events.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Leopold Mandic Church on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation (Cancer Unit) or the Canadian Cancer Society.
