Mijatovic, Ilija

MIJATOVIC, Ilija, of St. Thomas, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in his 85th year.  Husband of Marija (nee Zolek) Mijatovic.  Father of Zdenka O’Mara (Sean) of Victoria Harbour, and Anton Mijatovic (Stephanie Pilon) of London.  Brother of Marijan, Peja, Mato, late Grga, and late Luja.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Tolisa, Croatia/Herceg-Bosna, June 2, 1932, he was the son of the late Mato and Janja (nee Dominkovic) Mijatovic.  Ilija was a former construction worker and a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company of Canada’s St. Thomas Assembly Plant.  He was an active  member of St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Catholic Church, London, where he was a former member of the church council. Ilija was formerly active in numerous Croatian organizations including; Croatian Catholic Union, Croatian National Congress, Croatian Fraternal Union, Croatian National Movement (Stjepan Radic), and the Croatian Party of Rights.  Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Tuesday, August 30th  from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. (Prayers at 8:00 p.m.).  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leopold Mandic Croatian Catholic Church, 2889 Westminster Dr., London on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment in Holy Angels’ Cemetery.
