Roberts, Vivian M. of Bobier Nursing Home, Dutton and formerly of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 14th, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late Charles Roberts and dearly loved mother of Randy Roberts (Cynthia Nurse) and Sandra Pyper (John), all of St. Thomas. Loved grandmother of Meagen and John (Aleasha). She was the last of her family. Vivian was born in Chatham on September 9th, 1929, the daughter of the late Fred and Violet (McLaren) Jones. Vivian worked for Bell Telephone and then owned and operated Roberts Answering Service.

In Celebration of Vivian’s life the family will receive friends at the Pyper home, 96 Talbot St., St. Thomas on Sunday, April 21st from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital and Bobier Nursing Home for their care and compassion. Manninger, Arthur “Art” of St. Thomas, passed away on Saturday, April 13th, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, peacefully, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Earley) Manninger (1997) and dearly loved father of Lisa Manninger and her husband Michael Gooderham of West Porters Lake, N.S. Much loved grandfather of Emma Gooderham. Dear brother of Frank Manninger (Marnie) of Chatham, Joseph Manninger (late June) of Blenheim, late Marion Dale (late Byron), late Ted Manninger (late Rita), late Michael Manninger (late Barb) , late Elizabeth Grant (late Frank) and the late George Manninger and his wife Mary Manninger of Chatham. Dear brother-in-law of Lee Ann Denike of Rondeau Park. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Art was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan on April 21, 1932, the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Boyle) Manninger. He was retired from the Elgin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. He was a member of the Retired Ontario Police Officers Association.

Crevits, Charlotte Louise of Union, passed away on Friday, April 12th, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, after a courageous battle, in her 59th year. Dearly loved partner of Ian Forsyth and much loved mother of Ryan Wilson of Union, Gregory Wilson of London, Daniel Wilson (Lindsay) of London and Rachelle Wilson of Toronto. Specially loved grandmother of Dylan, Gordon and Elodie. Loved daughter of Denise (DeDobbelaer) Crevits of Union and the late Charles “Charlie” Crevits (1987). Dear sister of Joseph Crevits (Teresa) of Union, Dennis Crevits (Tari) of Union and the late Brian Crevits (1963). Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Charlotte was born in St. Thomas on February 21, 1955. She was a graduate of the Fanshawe Nursing Program in St. Thomas. Charlotte worked in the Emergency Department of the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. She was a member of Holy Angels’ Church.

Westerveld, Johannes (John) Willem – Resting on the eternal love and mercy of God, John passed peacefully into the eternal presence of his glorious Saviour on Friday, April 12, 2013, in his 83rd year while surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Iona Station, ON. Born in the Netherlands on May 12, 1930 to the late Johannes and Aleida Westerveld, he emigrated to Canada in 1954. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Johanna Hendrika (Ormel) Westerveld, and his dear children, John and Nancy Westerveld (Blenheim, ON), Joanne and Jim van’t Voort (Iona Station, ON), Arlene and Fred Jonkman (Quito, Ecuador), Art and Bernita Westerveld (Iona Station, ON), Karen and Andrew Knor (Alberton, ON), Betty Ann and Jeff Korvemaker (Cambridge, ON), and Larry and Diana Westerveld (Philadelphia, PA). He will be lovingly remembered by forty grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Wim, and sisters, Riek and Mien, in the Netherlands. He was predeceased by brothers Bernard, Bertus and Henk. John was a member of the Free Reformed Church in St. Thomas. Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Visitation and the funeral service will be held at the Free Reformed Church, 145 St. George St. St. Thomas, ON. The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 15, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 16, from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. A light luncheon will be served at the church and interment will follow at Cowal McBride’s Cemetery, 33163 Aberdeen Line, Dutton/Dunwich, ON. Dennis Allan Hobden August 26 1959 – April 11th, 2013Its with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Hobden our son, brother, and friend he was in his 54th year. Dennis loved golfing, fishing and sitting around the camp fires, he also had a love for cycling and playing chess. He was a native of St Thomas but had lived 20 yrs in Kitchener Ontario. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Ron & Laura Hobden, brother, Brian Hobden and his wife Cathy Hobden , his sister, Wendy Flintoft (Hobden )and her husband Kim Flintoft, He has 6 nieces, Faith Hobden, Jennifer Flintoft and partner Marc Bell , Racheal Scratch and husband Joe Scratch, & Amanda Flintoft and her partner Dale Maylor, Julie Gamble, Cassandra Gamble. He was a great uncle to 9 nieces and nephews. He will be missed by several cousins.

Memorial service for Dennis will be held at Williams Funeral Home , 45 Elgin St., St Thomas on Wednesday, April 17th, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Jeffries, James Clinton of St. Thomas, passed away on Wednesday, April 10th, 2013, peacefully, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of Patricia Hill and dearly loved father of Pride Toombs, Terry (Toombs) Bowen (late Joe), Faith Toombs, Tina Toombs and Brian Toombs (Doreen). Loved grandfather of Beth Bowen and Aaron Toombs. Jim was born in London , Ontario on December 8th, 1941. He was retired from Northern Telecom. After his retirement he worked at the St. Thomas Seniors Centre. He attended Eastwood Baptist Church. Jim was a former member of the Aylmer Sports Club.

Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Eastwood Baptist Church on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. McLean, Marcel of St. Thomas, and formerly of Tillsonburg, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, April 10th, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of Jeannine (Chartrand) McLean and dearly loved father of Rachel McLean (Randy McBrayne), Norm McLean (Sony) and Linda Rumford (Wayne). Loved grandfather of Amanda and Chantal Priddle, Samuel and Bel McLean and Brandon, Jamie and Kylie Rumford and grea grandfather of Preston and Quinton. Dear brother of Gerard, Rose, Germain and Diane. Predeceased by a sister Helene and a brother Leo. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Marcel was born in Uno Park, Ontario on July 15th, 1941, the son of the late Joseph and Jeannette (Plante) McLean. He was a retired bus driver. Marcel was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Brunton, Christopher John of St. Thomas, passed away on Saturday, April 6th, 2013, at his late residence, in his 60th year. Dear husband of Donna (Masters) Brunton and loved father of Kristin Brunton, Liisa Woolley (Rob) and Ryan Brunton. Dear grandfather of Alia and Joshua. Loved son of Cliff Brunton of Rodney and the late Jessie (Steele) Brunton and dear brother of Kim Fletcher, Barry Brunton (Denny), Scott Brunton (Peggy) and the late Brad Brunton. Chris was born in Sudbury on August 28th, 1953. He was retired from Electro Motive, London.

A public gathering to celebrate Chris’s life will be held on Friday, April 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Rodney Legion. 177 Victoria St. Cremation has taken place. HEATHERINGTON: Isabel Margaret (Manfredi) of St. Thomas, ON

Hetherington- (Manfredi) Isabel Margaret of St. Thomas passed away on Friday April 5, 2013 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in her 70th year. Dearly loved wife of Peter Hetherington. Dear mother of Peter Manfredi (Sandy) and Elise Harrison (Dave). Loved grandmother of Mia and Samuel Manfredi and Adam and Ryan Harrison. Special cousin of Valerie (Peter) Jackson and Debbie (Les) Burden. She was predeceased by her mother Lorena Patricia Misener. Isabel was born in St. Catharines and was an avid figure skater. In 1957, she won the junior pairs competition at the Western Ontario Sectional Championships and went on to win the junior ladies championship in 1959. From there she skated professionally with the Ice Follies. After moving to St. Thomas, Isabel was active in developing the Port Stanley Figure Skating Club and eventually founded the Isabel Manfredi Power Skating and Hockey School. She also ran the St. Thomas Summer Hockey School. She founded the Elgin Court Gymnastics Club and the St. Thomas Gymnastics Club. Isabel touched many lives in different ways.

In keeping with her wishes, please keep your memory of her either past or present in your heart. There will not be a public visitation or service, but a private family service. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or charity of choice. All arrangements through Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas. Silinsky, S.R.N., S.C.N., B.T.A. (England)- Teresa of Valleyview Home, St. Thomas, passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013, at her late residence, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. John V. Silinsky and loved mother of Lynn and her husband Jeff Raloff of New Germany, Nova Scotia. Dear sister of Kathleen Siwek of Leeds, England. Predeceased by 3 brothers Thomas, Patrick and Francis Reilly and a sister Braudy O’Mullan. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Teresa was born in Ballisodare, County Sligo, Ireland on February 23rd, 1923. Teresa was a Registered Nurse. She was a retired Director of Nursing at the Windsor Western Hospital Centre. Teresa has lived in St. Thomas since 1980. She was a member of Holy Angels’ Church.

Peat, Pamela Laverne of St. Thomas, passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, at the age of 60. Dearly loved wife of Robert “Bob” Peat and loved mother of Tarra Copeland (Kelly) of London and step-mother of Jason Peat (Dawnn) of Thamesford. Loved grandmother of Kyle, Emma, Brooklynn, Jaylynn, Bryce and (Riley). Sadly missed by a number of brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. Pamela was born in Simcoe on November 28th, 1952 the daughter of Edward and Myrtle Beemer.

REYNOLDS: Marion Elizabeth “Betty” (Malott) of St. Thomas, ON

Reynolds, Marion Elizabeth “Betty” (Malott) entered into the Kingdom of her Lord and Master on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013, peacefully at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, after a short illness. Born in Kingsville, On April 25th, 1918 she was in her 95th year. She and her husband, the late Harvey Reynolds (1990) came to St. Thomas in 1973-74 as curators at the Elgin County Museum. They then returned to Kingsville to care for Betty’s mother for the next ten years, taking up residence at 130 Talbot St. on their return to St. Thomas in 1984. She graduated from Victoria Hospital, School of Nursing in January 1941. She later worked for 25 years for Bell Canada as an area instructor in London and Toronto. She was presented with a life membership in the United Church Women by Epworth United Church, Kingsville. She was a member of First United Church, St. Thomas. Betty was the daughter of the late Bernie and Jennie (Fox) Malott, also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Hazen and Madeline Malott, her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Ron Brown, her step-son and his wife Ron and Doreen Reynolds and her step-son-in-law, John Taylor. Betty’s nieces and nephews are Janet (Paul) Heffer, Dr. Matthew and John; Jim Malott; Louise (Ivano) Bandiera, Laura and Eric; Anne (Matt) Dick, Katie and Mike Trantor, Kristyn and Lynda; Margaret (Greg) De Vos and Curtis; Scott Malott; Cathy (Bob) Hutson, Belinda Pilgrim, Ashley and Erika, Charly (Beccie) and Ryan, Jim; Marilyn (Don) McRae and Jerra Coulombe; Rosemary Brown and Raymond Parisé; James Brown and Jean Corneau. Dearly loved by her best friend Lynda Stinchcombe. She also survived by her step-daughter, Barbara Taylor of Hyde Park, On and 6 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will take place on Sunday, April 7th, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with interment on Monday. GASPIRC: Ciril of St. Thomas, ON

Gaspirc, Ciril passed away peacefully on March 30th, 2013, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital with his children and grandchildren by his side. He was 91 years old. Ciril, who was the youngest of 12 children, was born March 17th, 1922, in Cerklje, Slovenia to Franz and Franciska Gaspirc. Before emigrating to Canada in 1948, Ciril was a cheese maker in Austria. Once in St. Thomas, he met Marina Langerholc of Skofja Loka, Slovenia at George Thorman’s English classes and married her in 1950. Ciril and Marina stayed in St. Thomas where they built their home and planted an orchard and vegetable garden, and raised their children. Ciril worked as an auto body mechanic at Spackman’s and Fearn Ford until he retired. Ciril was known for his home made kielbasa, cider and slivovka which became favourites at family gatherings. Ciril was a founding member of the Slovenian Cultural Club, Triglav, where summer picnics, dances and Christmas celebrations were shared for many years with children and grandchildren. Dearly loved husband of 54 years of the late Marina Gaspirc (2004) and beloved father of Margaret Rush (husband Vince), Bob Gaspirc (wife Eileen), and Susan Andrews (husband Richard). Loving grandfather of Jessamy (Anthony) and Megan (Danny) Rush of Australia, Michael, Colleen (Taylor) and Anthony (wife Suria) Gaspirc of Toronto, Katie (husband Mark), Gregory (Kylie), Jessica (Jon) and Keegan (Jessica) of St. Thomas. Proud great-grandfather of Van and Will McVeigh, Marley and Rowan Gaspirc, and Safiya and Ayub Gaspirc. He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews, from Slovenia and the United States. The family wishes to thanks the CCAC Personal Support Workers and especially the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital CCC D-Wing Nurses for their compassionate care.

Visitation will take place at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church, 20 Morrison Dr., St. Thomas on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross.
