Potts, Alfred Leslie “Les”of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, June 12th, 2013, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Helen Marie (Bowlby) Potts (1984) and close companion of Dorothy Shellington. Dearly loved father of Steven and his wife Deborah (Locke) Potts and the late Wendy Marie Sweet (2006) and her husband Charlie Sweet of St. Thomas. Loved grandfather of Jennifer and Natalie and great grandfather of John, Joseph, Dominic and Dante. Sadly missed by his two dogs Cosmo and Rusty. Alfred was born in St. Thomas on December 26th, 1925, the son of the late Mahlon and Pearl (Cox) Potts. He was retired and formerly worked at Erie Iron Works and Canron. He was certified to the highest level in Ham Radio. Les was a field director of the National Campers and Hikers Association. He was a former drummer and violinist in a number of dance bands, an amateur photographer and a Past President of the St. Thomas Camera Club. Les also instructed in St. Johns Ambulance and was an ambulance attendant with Cox Cabs. He taught first aid with St. John’s Ambulance and was a lifelong dog lover.
A private family service will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Friday at 7:00 p.m. No public visitation. Cremation to follow. Remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. A family gathering will be held at a later date.
