Procunier, George W.

PROCUNIER, George W., of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, January 3, 2016, in his 92nd year. He was the eldest son of the late Dr. William Procunier and the late Minnie (nee Pugh) Procunier, and the brother of the late Edwin R. “Ed” Procunier. He was born in Lamaline, Newfoundland on November 15, 1924. George was raised in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and came to Richmond, Ontario in 1941, then to St. Thomas in 1942. He was a retired attendant at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, and formerly worked as a brakeman on the New York Central Railway. George was associated with the former Grace United Church, St. Thomas and was a member of Lord Elgin Branch 41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Private interment in the St. Thomas Cemetery, West Avenue. Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
