Shaw-Thomas Charles of Chartwell Nursing Home, Aylmer, and formerly of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, on Thursday, April 9th, 2015, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of the late Edna Kathleen (Hurst) Shaw (Feb. 14, 2015) and dearly loved father of Rod and Mary Shaw, Kim and Allan Hughson, Randy and Rozina Shaw and the late Tommy Shaw (1988). Loved grandfather of Brooke and Kris Kewley, Emily and Scott Bate, Ali and Kris Harris, Matt Hughson and fiancée Miranda Ross and Adam and Amir Shaw. Dear great grandfather of Kade, Klark, Keifer, Drew, Bryce, Kallan and Vayda. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his three sisters, Ethel Lefler, Gwen Foster and Margaret Derbyshire. Tom was born in Hamilton on August 14, 1930, the son of the late Thomas Richard and Ellen Kate (Boxall) Shaw. He grew up in Orillia and Fort Erie, Ontario. Tom was a baker by trade and former owner of Shaws Bakery, Talbot St., St. Thomas and Shaws Bakery, Port Stanley. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a former elder. Tom was a past member of the St. Thomas Curling Club, St. David’s Lodge #302 A.F. and A.M. and the Mocha Temple Shrine Band and the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club. When Tom retired he enjoyed travelling with Edna, golfing, participating in the Shrine Parades, antique collecting and decorating wedding cakes.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Private interment in Union Cemetery.
