SQUIRES, James L. “Jim” of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, in his 64th year, following a brief battle with cancer. Brother of Barry Squires (Denise) of St. Thomas, and Colleen Churchill (Andrew) of London. Uncle of Kerry Squires, Rebecca Squires, Brendon Churchill, Kyla Churchill, Jeremy Thelen, Christine Thelen, and Lisamarie Thelen Squires. Great uncle of Keira, Benjamin, Alexis and William. Nephew of Patricia and James Griffin, Peter Iredom, Lucy Iredom, Jackie Iredom, and the late Earl Iredom. Close long-time friend of Bob Bishop and family, and the late Howard Bishop. Also remembered by several cousins. Born in Toronto, ON, August 8, 1952, he was the son of the late William and Helen (nee Iredom) Squires. Jim worked as a millwright at Yarmouth Metal Fabricators for over 40 years. He was a volunteer fireman on the Yarmouth #2 Fire Department for many years and also served as Deputy Chief for a period of time. Jim served as a volunteer at the St. Thomas Fire Muster Days since its inception. He loved horses, and for many years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Monday, July 18th at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society for Lung or Liver Cancer Research will be gratefully acknowledged.
