Sweet, Charles Edward “Charlie” of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, in his 64th year. Cherished father of Jennifer Sweet. Loved husband of the late Wendy (Potts) Sweet and her parents the late Les and Helen Potts. Loved partner and best friend of Laura (Lorie) Jones and her parents Robert and Lois Jones and family. Dear nephew of Dorothy (Lloyd) Beck and Rod Bishop (late Jean). Sadly missed by a number of cousins. Charlie was born in St. Thomas on May 4th, 1950, the son of the late John Charles and Irene Patricia (King) Sweet. He was a graduate of Agriculture at Ridgetown College. He started working for the Elgin Co-op in sales and when he left the Co-op he was manager of Moore St., he also worked for Broers Manufacturing in Aylmer and then started White Lamb Maintenance, which he owned at operated for 25 years until retirement last year. Charlie was a former Officer and member of the Oddfellows, past Commander of the St. Thomas Power Squadron, a member of the East Elgin Sports Club and was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater, especially enjoying those things after his retirement. He was a member of Grace United Church.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Aylmer Cemetery. Visitation Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Brain Tumour Research, the Canadian Cancer Society or Animal Aide.
