SWIFT, Mrs. Pauline (nee Shelley), of Metcalfe Gardens, St. Thomas passed away suddenly but peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late W. Dale “Bounce” Swift (June 2015) for almost 60 years. Cherished mother of Susan Aristone (David), and Karen Auckland (Richard). Devoted and adored grandma of Martha Josling (Paul), Matt Aristone (Mina), Sonya Aristone, Jonathon Auckland (partner Laura Birchall), Geoffrey and Katie Auckland. Dear sister of Phillip Shelley, Ron Shelley (Carol), and the late Judi Dees. Special sister-in-law of Jack Dees, Dale Shelley, and Donald Swift (Carmen). Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in St. Thomas on July 14, 1932 to Phyllis (nee Randall) and Ernest J. Shelley. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing baseball, riding the L&PS and spending Saturday evenings dancing with Bounce at the Stork Club. Pauline worked as a medical secretary for Dr. David Atkinson. She was an active member of Union United Church and a life member of the Union U.C.W. Pauline was a long standing volunteer for 29 years at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and a member of Daughters of the Nile, Omar Temple #111, London. One of her favourite past times was supporting and attending her grandchildren’s sporting and musical activities. She was an avid Blue Jays fan and loved listening to the car races, curling, and Jeopardy on television and listening to books from the talking book service at the Public Library. Annual family trips to Manitoulin were always a highlight as well as the many cruises she and Bounce took with friends. She was known for her wonderful memory, sharp wit and organizational skills. Her family are grateful she instilled in them a spirit of helping others, being a life-long learner, and always making the best of what you have been given. This will be her lasting legacy. Relatives and friends will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Sunday afternoon, December 4th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Union United Church, 6008 Stone Church Road, Union, on Monday, December 5th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to Union United Church, St. Thomas Public Library (re: Home Library Services Program), or Daughters of the Nile, Omar Temple #111 are appreciated. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Jones and Karen Smith for their many years of care and compassion, and the Metcalfe staff for their kindness and support.
