On December 29th 2016 just before 10:00pm St. Thomas Police received a call regarding a possible Impaired Driver that was Southbound on Wellington Road from London to St. Thomas. The caller stayed on the line which allowed Officers to locate the vehicle on the #3 By-Pass at the First Avenue on ramp. A traffic stop was made, the Officer could detect an odour of alcohol coming from within the vehicle. The officer spoke with the driver and determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.
The male was transported to the St. Thomas Police Station where he provided breath samples of twice the legal limit. It was also discovered that he was currently on two separate driving prohibition orders. As a result 48-year old William Beattie of St. Thomas faces charges of Impaired operation of a motor vehicle and drive with more than 80mgs. He is also charged with driving while disqualified X2. He was served his automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and released with a future court date.
