On Saturday October 25, 2014 at around 9:17 pm Police responded to a City residence with regards to a 911 call of a possible Break and Enter in progress. Residents were at the home and believed that they had heard an intruder inside the house while they were in the basement. When Police attended, they completed a search of the residence and no intruders were located. However, during the search of the residence, Police did locate a quantity of marijuana. The illicit drugs were seized by Police and as a result of the discovery a 37 year old St. Thomas man and his 36 year old wife have been charged with Production of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. As a result of an unrelated outstanding criminal charge, the female was in a reverse onus situation and was held in custody pending a court appearance. The 37 year old male was released from custody with a future court date. The estimated value of the drug seizure is $9140.
Disturbance at bar
On Sunday October 26, 2014 at around 1:36 am Police responded to a 911 call regarding an assault that had occurred in a downtown liquor licenced establishment. Police attended and found a victim with a significant head wound and learned the assault took place after the aggressor accused the victim of taking his chair. Police found the suspect still inside the bar and as a result of the evidence and information collected at the scene a 28 year old man was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The victim was transported to the Elgin General Hospital Emergency Department where he received medical treatment. Further investigation revealed the charged male is currently out on a Recognizance of Bail with conditions that stem from unrelated criminal charges. As a result the male is also charged with 2 counts of Breach of Recognizance for attending a liquor licenced establishment and curfew violations. The male was held in custody pending a court appearance.
