Female Arrested for Shoplifting

At approximately 4:00 PM on August 16, 2012, St. Thomas Police were called to a south end drug store to investigate a complaint of shoplifting. As a result of the investigation by loss prevention and police, a 29 year old St. Thomas female was charged with theft under $5000. The female had tried to steal approximately $68 in merchandise and was released at the scene with a future court date.

Suspicious Fire on Barnes Street

At approximately 2:50 AM on August 17, 2012, St. Thomas Fire and Police were called to an address on Barnes Street for a report of a car on fire. St. Thomas Firefighters extinguished the fire, but the vehicle was severely damaged. The vehicle had been parked next to the owner’s residence and as a result, the residence received fire damage. Police conducted an investigation and have ruled the fire to be an arson. Police and fire believe that if an alert neighbour had not noticed the fire and called 9-1-1, the house may have caught fire and the occupants’ lives may have been in danger.

Break and Enter at School

On August 17, 2012 at approximately 6:15 AM, Police were called to a Fairview Avenue school for a report of a break and enter. A neighbour of the school had observed 4-6 youths entering the school through a window and called police. As the caller was on the phone, the youths ran off in an unknown direction. The culprits entered the school and did some minor damage to a room in the school before leaving. There was nothing stolen in the incident. Police are continuing to investigate.
