On February 24th, 2017 in the early afternoon, the St. Thomas Police responded the report of a possible impaired driver in the East end of the City. The vehicle was followed by a citizen, which was eventually involved in a minor collision.
Officers arrived on scene shortly after and spoke with the driver. Immediately the officer noted that the driver was having difficulty speaking and standing, however alcohol was not a factor. The driver was suspected of being under the influence of a narcotic and was arrested. A Drug Recognition Officer from another local police service attended and confirmed the original suspicion and the driver was charged with Drive while ability impaired by Drug under the Criminal Code.
