On Saturday 23rd March just before 8:00 pm St. Thomas City Police were dispatched to Elgin General Hospital in regards to a 9 week old infant with suspicious injuries. Members of the Criminal Investigations Unit commenced the investigation which revealed the 9 week old boy was suffering cerebral haemorrhaging The baby was transported to London Hospital in critical condition. Further medical examination also revealed previous suspicious injuries.
On Tuesday 26 March 2013 as a result of the investigation, the father of the child, a 25 year old, was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault. He is being held in custody pending a court appearance today.
The baby boy remains in hospital in stable condition.
