Man Found Unconscious on Sidewalk

On June 27, 2013, several people, including the two accused males and the victim, were drinking on the front porch of an Alma Street residence in St. Thomas. An argument erupted and the victim was beaten severely at the residence. The victim was dragged down the sidewalk approximately 38 metres, where the assault continued. The accused males dropped the victim and left him unconscious on the sidewalk after a witness intervened.

Police and EMS were called at approximately 11:30 PM and found the 48 year old male victim unconscious with severe injuries to his head, ribs and spine. He was taken to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital where he was treated and transported to London Health Sciences Centre-Victoria Campus Intensive Care Unit. The victim suffered severe trauma and was in critical condition, but is expected to live.

As a result of the police investigation, two St. Thomas residents have been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. 40 year old Robert HYATT and 26 year old Craig LaFRANCE will appear for a court date today, June 28, 2013.

The investigation is continuing and police ask that anyone with information contact the St. Thomas Police Service at 519-631-1364.
