Officer charged

On August 27, 2012 Chief Lynch of the St. Thomas Police Service was made aware of allegations that an off-duty Officer with the St. Thomas Police Service had committed assaults against his partner while living in the City of St. Thomas.

At the request of Chief Lynch a Domestic Violence investigator with the London Police Service was called in to investigate the matter.
On August 28, 2012 the London Police Service arrested a 60 yr old Constable with the St. Thomas Police Service and charged him with Assault with a weapon and Assault (Domestic) under the Criminal Code of Canada.

The Officer was released from custody on a Promise to Appear with conditions. The Officer will be attending Court at a future date to answer to the charges.

The name of the Officer is not being disclosed at this time as this is a domestic related matter.

A parallel investigation under the Police Services Act by the St. Thomas Police Service Professional Standards Branch is ongoing. The Officer has been assigned to administrative duties while the internal investigation is continued and the Criminal matters are dealt with in the Courts.
