Stolen Vehicle and Attempted Robbery

On Sunday April 13, 2014 at approximately 4:23 pm St. Thomas Police attended the Rona Store in regards to a recovered stolen vehicle and another vehicle that had just been stolen.

Just prior to this, the St. Thomas Police had learned of a pursuit that had been called off by the OPP involving a black Mitsubishi Eclipse which was last seen on Flora Street.

Witnesses at Rona, observed a large Native male exit the black Mitsubishi and smash the passenger window of a red 1992 Chevrolet Astro van, smash the steering column, and then drive the van out of the parking lot towards First Ave.

Shortly after attending the Rona Store Police were advised of an assault that was taking place in the Wal-mart Parking lot. Upon Police arrival the suspect had fled. Police learned that the stolen red Astro van, after leaving Rona, attended Wal-mart. The suspect attempted to steal a Cadillac Escalade however was interrupted by the owner and a physical confrontation occurred. The owner of the escalade was struck in the head with a hammer. The suspect then went back into the Astro van and fled the scene.

In the early morning hours of April 14, 2014, the St. Thomas Police received information from Norfolk County OPP that a Chevrolet Astro van, believed to be the one involved in the above incident had been recovered and burned.

This incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact the St. Thomas Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
