A team effort brings another investigation to a close

The St Thomas Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of Uniformed Patrol officers and the Canine Unit, brought closure to an ongoing drug investigation Friday evening with the arrest of one male found in possession of controlled substances. In the result, a related residence in the core was the subject of further police investigation and subsequent search warrant.

The STPS DEU executed the drug search warrant on Saturday afternoon where a variety of prescription pills, shatter, and crystal methamphetamine was seized. The total seizure of illicit drugs is estimated at over $3,000.

Two St Thomas residents, Albert Bartsch (35 yrs old) and Kristen Lay (28 yrs old) are facing numerous charges. Bartsch is charged with numerous counts of Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession of Controlled Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking, and single counts of Obstruct Police, Resist arrest, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Lay is currently outstanding and wanted for numerous counts of Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession of Controlled Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking Failing to Comply with conditions of Probation.

Bartsch made a court appearance on Sunday morning.

    I thought our k9 unit was still on suspension for the forceful arrest made on an incorrect individual.

    What was the outcome of that, I was keeping track but nothing has been updated as far as I know.
