2013 Iron Horse Festival Postponed

It is with sadness that the Iron Horse Festival Committee has decided to postpone this year’s festival. The Iron Horse Festival is a non profit organization that has been organizing the Festival the past 19 years. The past few years have been extremely challenging due to many factors.

As everyone knows our region has been hit hard with plant closures and high unemployment. For the past few years it has been difficult securing the revenue required to stage a successful Festival. The past few years, the Festival has operated in the red, forcing the Festival to rely more and more on donations, sponsorships and fund raising efforts.

Unfortunately this year brought additional challenges and increased costs associated with a relocation off the main street and into a new park being developed in the heart of the city. The Festival has worked closely with the City to layout the Festival in the new location hoping to have everything ready this summer. The additional costs and the uncertainty of the new location has proven to be too much to overcome this summer.

The decision to suspend the festival was not made lightly but one made to enable the organization the time to refocus and improve the Festival for the future.

The community has come to appreciate the end of summer Festival and many people will surely miss it.

The Festival would also like to thank many of the local charities, not-for-profit groups, performers, vendors, community partners and sponsors for continuing their support over the last 19 years. A special thanks must also go out to the many volunteers that work so hard every year to make this event possible.

Next year, the Iron Horse Festival will be celebrating their 20th anniversary since it began in 1994. The Festival Committee is already planning next year’s festival but will also be reaching out to the community for ideas and assistance so that next year’s Festival is the best it can be.

If you have any ideas or wish to sponsor or become involved in next year’s Festival, please contact the Festival at : admin@ironhorsefestival.com
