St. Thomas, ON — A Tatts for Cats fundraiser by Lady Unlucky Tattoo of St. Thomas has netted Animal Aide of St. Thomas-Elgin over $6,000 in donations. The money was raised through a combination of events including two tattoo days, a raffle draw, and the sale of custom prints. As well, donors also brought in plenty of necessities including cat litter, toys, cleaning supplies and a cat carrier.
Store owner Lana Hicks is overwhelmed by the community’s generosity. The fundraiser ran during the month of August and included two full days of tattoos done by Hicks on August 23 and 24. During those two days Hicks tattooed more than 100 people and kept her shop open from 10:30 a.m. until after midnight to get as many people through as possible. Some people waited more than five hours to participate in the fundraiser. One hundred per cent of the proceeds of the event are being donated, with Hicks personally covering the cost of ink and other necessary equipment.
“Thanks to everyone who turned out,” Hicks said. “It far exceeded our expectations and I just hope this helps out Animal Aide.”
Hicks chose to donate to Animal Aide of St. Thomas-Elgin after learning the organization had received over 250 kittens and cats to care for later than expected in the season.
She will present a cheque to Office Manager Sherrie Goodwin at Animal Aide of St. Thomas-Elgin on Wednesday, September 7th at 9am.
