St. Thomas, ON (May 2, 2013) — Violence Against Women Services Elgin County invites media
to attend the public launch of the Building Hope. Saving Lives. an initiative to create a new
home for Women’s Place Elgin’s Emergency Shelter.
The Building Hope. Saving Lives. Public Launch Event & Reception will be held at the Princess
Avenue Playhouse (40 Princess Avenue, St. Thomas) from 10:00am to 11:30am on Monday,
June 3rd, 2013.
About Building Hope. Saving Lives.
Building Hope. Saving Lives. is a Violence Against Women Services Elgin County initiative to
provide dignity and hope to women and children in Elgin County by creating a new home for
Women’s Place Elgin’s Emergency Shelter. Our new Women’s Place will transform a
downtown vacant lot into a safe, welcoming and eco-friendly community shelter.
About Violence Against Women Services Elgin County
Violence Against Women, Services Elgin County is a non-profit agency that seeks to end
violence in our community and reduce its impact on women and children. To achieve this, we
provide a 24-hour help line, community based counselling in Aylmer, St. Thomas and West
Lorne, specific counselling services for sexual abuse, and 24-hour safety at Women’s Place,
Elgin’s only emergency shelter. We also provide support to children aged 4 to 18 whose
moms have been abused as well as assistance to women trying to find a safe place to live,
