Downtown Renewal Project Under Consideration With Retirement Residence

One of Ontario’s leading, private-pay seniors housing companies is looking to invest in St. Thomas by developing a retirement residence in the block of land bound by Ross Street, Centre Street, Ameila Street and Moore Street.

With approximately 120 suites the estimated $35 million project will offer amenities to sustain independent supportive living, assisted living and memory care. In addition, 10 town homes will be developed for independent living.

This venture will provide approximately 100 full-time and part-time skilled jobs.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the City and its seniors and one that would complement the significant work that has been unfolding within the downtown L&PS corridor area” states Mayor Jackson.

At this point, as the due diligence continues, the project will move through the site plan process, consideration of Community Improvement funding and Council approvals.

A formal announcement of the project will follow once the approvals are in place and the due diligence is complete.
