The Pan Am Flame to Light up St. Thomas

St. Thomas, Ontario, June 1 2015

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games are happening this summer, but before the games begin, the flame is making the rounds.

The flame was lit in Teotihuacan Mexico before coming to Canada to begin its 5000+ kilometre nationwide journey on May 30th. Its final stop will be in Toronto for the Opening Ceremony of the games July 10th.

St. Thomas was selected as one of more than 130 communities on the route, and will accompany its arrival with a celebration. On June 17th, set in the heart of downtown in the historic L&PS Corridor, the torch is scheduled to arrive at 5:07pm. Following its arrival will be time for photo ops and speeches by local dignitaries.

Local school groups are set to provide entertainment and showcase their incredible talent. Enjoy the Monsignor Morrison singers, the Trudeau band, and the Forest Park dancers.

Capping off the celebration will be two sponsored “fun run” train rides (no cost to ride).

Dennis Broome, board chair of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation sums up the day, “We are so proud to be a part of this nationwide event and celebrate the upcoming Pan Am Games. To showcase the talents of our local youth and celebrate our railway heritage is a wonderful way to be involved and have fun”.
