Books & Brews: A New STPL Book Club

Books & Brews: a St. Thomas Public Library Book Club

A casual, relaxed atmosphere to discuss good books over good beer.

Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 7:00-8:30 PM

Midtown Tavern, 701 Talbot St, St Thomas, ON N5P 1E1

This ain’t your grandmomma’s book club! This NEW, free book club is for the younger crowd (well, over 19 years old at least) who enjoy a more relaxed setting to discuss good books. Midtown Tavern on Talbot Street in St. Thomas was more than happy to allow us space to hold our meetings! At this first meeting, we’ll set up the basics by discussing group format and vote on books to read for upcoming meetings. Don’t miss your chance to have your say on how this new (and awesome) book club will run!

We’d like to say that we’re pioneers – coming up with this whole “Book Club and beer” thing, but London Public Library has recently started one, too, called “Books on Tap.” Their book club is well received and we thought, “Hey! St. Thomas deserves a casual and fun book club, too!” (That isn’t to say our Adult Book Club and Whodunnit Mystery Book Club aren’t fun, but you don’t get to drink beer at those.)

Meetings are held every-other month, on the last Wednesday of the month. (We don’t want TOO much pressure by having a “mandatory” book every month.) No registration is required. Just show up with a list of books you think other people should read. There’s no obligation to come to every meeting and there is absolutely no obligation to consume alcohol; we’re just saying that you can if you choose. This is just about good books, good beer, and good times! Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Wednesday meetings:

  • September 24, 2014
  • November 26, 2014
  • January 28, 2015
  • March 25, 2015
  • May 27, 2015
