Construction Advisory Notice – Churchill Crescent – Simcoe Street to Meehan Street

The City’s Contractor will be commencing construction on the following project:
Contract No. 13-08-531/592 Churchill Crescent (Phase 1) – Simcoe Street to Meehan Street Watermain Replacement, Sewer Replacement/Installation and Road Reconstruction on Monday, August 12, 2013 (weather permitting) with the scheduled completion date of Friday, October 25, 2013.

The Phase 1 reconstruction project on Churchill Crescent involves: replacement of the existing watermain and water services to property line; replacement of the existing 375mm sanitary sewer and one existing sanitary service connection to property line; installation of 375mm storm sewer to eliminate a combined sewer connection; replacement of the existing sidewalk on the north and west side only to a 1.5m width; road reconstruction including pavement widening with existing curb/gutter replacement and catch basin relocation; boulevard restoration with topsoil and sod; and installation of trees. Rehabilitation by lining of sections of existing sanitary and storm sewers is subject to a separate Contract.

The work will initially commence with the existing asphalt pavement being removed. The installation of sanitary sewers, storm sewers and watermain works as specified in the contract will follow. The work will then continue with existing sidewalk and existing curb/gutter removal followed by the installation of new granular road sub-base and base materials, new curb/gutter and new hot-mix base asphalt, new sidewalk and landscaping. Hot-mix surface asphalt pavement will be placed in 2014 on Churchill Crescent.

Due to the nature of the work, access to properties will, at times, be limited or restricted. During construction Churchill Crescent will be closed to through traffic, but local access to properties will be maintained whenever possible. The immediate construction work area will always be closed to all vehicular traffic. The Contractor will provide advanced notice of any scheduled disturbances, whenever possible, to domestic water service or to driveway access so that vehicles can be moved and parked elsewhere.

Dust and noise should be expected during construction and cannot be completely eliminated by the Contractor.

Please be aware of the potential hazards in the vicinity of the excavations and construction machinery, and inform children accordingly.

During construction, vibratory equipment will be used for compaction purposes. Residents are cautioned to remove any items that may fall from shelves and/or walls, and may become damaged as a result of this vibration.
