Severe Thunderstorm watch for: St. Thomas – Aylmer – Eastern Elgin County

 

ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 9:41 A.M. EDT TUESDAY 8 JULY 2014

Severe thunderstorm conditions possible – morning to evening. Thunderstorms are expected to affect much of southern Ontario this afternoon and early evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Some of these thunderstorms have the potential to become severe with large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required, so stay tuned to your local media or Weatheradio.
